Obverse: Seating Liberty, looking right above her shoulder, with a Phrygian hat on a stick and a shield, with 13 stars around her. The arrows on both sides of the date mean that the coin weight was reduced. Lettering : LIBERTY 1854 Reverse: Facial value in a wreath and the country name. "Half dime" is the old naming for the 5 cents coins, later known as "Nickels". Lettering : UNITED STATES OF AMERICA HALF DIME Edge: Milled.
